Lecture 1
Introduction to HTML –
Today is our first day
of Learning; we start with - Introduction to HTML.
As we all know HTML
stands for Hypertext markup Language. Basically, HTML is a markup language. A
Markup language uses markup tags. Tags are used to describe data or text. HTML
uses different tags to show text on browser. HTML documents are known as
Web-pages.
[Web-Browser:
Browser is a computer program which only understands HTML. It is used for
retrieving, presenting and surveying information resources on World Wide Web.]
In HTML, Tags are
basically keywords between angle bracket, like <html>. There are two
types of tags –
1.
Paired tags,
like <a>Text</a>
2.
Empty or
unpaired tags, like <br>
Structure of HTML document –
Explanation:
1. DOCTYPE DECLARATION: The First thing in
all html document is must be DOCTYPE before the <html > tag, It define
the type of document, which version of html or xhtml used in it.
Eg. HTML 5

HTML 4.01
<!DOCTYPE HTML
PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
3. <HEAD > Tag – HEAD tag is container of all head element like title, scripts, style etc.
4. <TITLE > Tag – Title tag describe the title of the html document.
5. <Body > Tag – Body tag defines the documents body. It contains all contents of html document like text, images, table, lists, hyperlinks etc.
Note: In Next lecture,
we will learn different html tags used in html document or web page.
